Focus on research, industry, and innovation for the security and competitiveness of the country

Turin, 23 October 2025 – The Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, visited today the headquarters of the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI4I)  where he was welcomed by President Fabio Pammolli and Director General Antonio Calegari.

The visit offered an important opportunity for discussion on the development paths of Italy’s national artificial intelligence ecosystem, with particular attention to the synergies between scientific research, industrial supply chains, and strategic technological capabilities — key elements for the security and competitiveness of the country.

During the meeting, Minister Crosetto explored the activities of the Institute, which serves as a national platform for technology transfer and the application of artificial intelligence across production sectors, fostering collaboration between businesses, universities, research centres, and public institutions.

The dialogue focused on technological sovereignty, skills enhancement, and the strengthening of the national industrial base, with the aim of promoting an integrated approach linking innovation, security, and economic development.

> “The defence of our country,” Minister Crosetto underlined, “inevitably depends on research and the development of new technologies. It is within this domain that we are now defining the systems capable of protecting the well-being and security of citizens, countering and neutralising emerging threats that could profoundly alter our way of life and our values.”

The visit is part of the broader process of consolidating AI4I’s role as a strategic national infrastructure, committed to advancing cutting-edge research and strengthening the interconnection between the public sector, academia, and industry — in pursuit of national growth and technological autonomy.
