Throughout the forum — structured around thematic workshops and exhibition areas showcasing the state of the art in robotics — AI4I contributed to the discussion on technology transfer and the conditions required to enable the effective adoption of AI in industrial contexts.
Benedetto Cavicchi, Analytics Translator at the Institute, spoke within Workshop 19, titled “Beyond Compliance: Designing for Social Acceptance”. His presentation, “The challenge of technology transfer. AI4I within the IT4LIA AI Factory framework”, focused on the model developed by AI4I to bridge the gap between advanced research and industrial adoption.
In his talk, Cavicchi referred to Italy’s lag in AI adoption, highlighting a set of indicators pointing to a gap compared to other European countries, including patent applications, startup funding levels, and the rate of AI adoption across enterprises.
Against this backdrop, he presented the approach developed by AI4I, aimed at helping bridge the gap between applied research and industrial deployment. In particular, he outlined the Institute’s technology transfer model, structured around multiple components — Research, Development and Engineering (RDE), HPC infrastructure, and the SUK (System for User Knowledge) — each distinct in function yet interconnected.
Within this framework, innovation is described as a flow that accompanies the development of solutions across different stages, up to their potential adoption in industrial settings.
The presentation also touched on the main application domains addressed by the Institute and on the model of the Labs, conceived as vertically focused units designed to develop transferable solutions.

ternational positioning and contribution to the European debate on technology transfer models and the infrastructures needed to support the adoption of artificial intelligence.
