Consip, Italy’s national public procurement agency, has announced the rollout of anAI adoption roadmap spanning the entire lifecycle of public contracts.
The initiative, presented in Rome on May 13 during an event dedicated to public procurement innovation, is part of the agency’s 2026–2029 Industrial Plan. It aims to bolster efficiency, transparency, and operational capacity across the public sector.
Fiorenza Succu, Chief Evangelist at AI4I, joined the discussion on adoption models and future trends to outline the technology’s key evolutions. Specifically, she highlighted the transition into a new era: Physical AI.
This phase features intelligent systems capable of observing, reasoning, and acting within the physical world through advanced robotics, automation, and industrial systems. It is a transformation intended to have a major impact on the entire national economy.
“AI is not a passing trend; it is an infrastructural lever destined to transform production systems and organizations,” Succu stated, emphasizing the urgent need to lay the groundwork for structured, scalable deployment.
Against this backdrop, integrating AI into public administration takes on a strategic role. Beyond optimizing complex processes like procurement, it serves to drive the modernization of the broader economic fabric, particularly for SMEs and the manufacturing sector, which face growing competitiveness challenges and labor shortages.
Indeed, scaling AI will hinge on the ability to build collaborative ecosystems that unite research institutions, startups, tech providers, and enterprises, making technology and expertise accessible far beyond the perimeter of large organizations.
This aligns directly with the model championed by AI4I: an integrated ecosystem that bridges research, industrial development, innovation, and technology transfer to accelerate the practical, real-world adoption of Artificial Intelligence.
