On 16 July 2026, AI4I officially unveiled AI Foundry Peano, its advanced computing infrastructure designed to accelerate the development, validation and deployment of next-generation artificial intelligence.
Presented during a public event at OGR Tech in Turin, Peano is now among the world’s most powerful supercomputers, following its recent inclusion in the TOP500, the international ranking of the world’s leading high-performance computing systems. The platform combines high-performance computing, cloud technologies and engineering expertise to support research, industrial innovation and the large-scale adoption of artificial intelligence.
The event brought together representatives from institutions, academia, industry and the innovation ecosystem to introduce one of AI4I’s key strategic assets. Specifically designed for AI workloads, the Foundry integrates more than 140 NVIDIA H100 and B200 GPUs, HPC infrastructure, cloud services, advanced orchestration and virtualization environments, together with a dedicated engineering team, providing a complete platform that supports the entire AI lifecycle—from experimentation to production.
The event opened with institutional remarks by Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of Turin, and Maurizio Marrone, Vice President of the Piedmont Region, who highlighted the strategic importance of AI Foundry Peano in strengthening Turin’s and Piedmont’s position among Europe’s leading innovation ecosystems.
Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of Turin, said:

In his keynote address, Fabio Pammolli, President of AI4I, outlined the strategic role of advanced computing infrastructures in strengthening industrial competitiveness, technological sovereignty and long-term economic growth.
“With the opening of AI Foundry Peano, we strengthen AI4I’s role as Italy’s national infrastructure for artificial intelligence. Today we present a platform designed to expand the Institute’s impact across research, innovation and industrial development.”
During the technical session, Riccardo Di Maria, Head of HPC/AI and Engineering at AI4I, presented the Foundry’s architecture and operating model, explaining how Peano combines HPC, cloud services, engineering capabilities and specialised expertise into a unified environment supporting the full AI lifecycle.
“Peano is designed to support the entire lifecycle of artificial intelligence—from development and training to validation, inference and deployment. The infrastructure provides computing power, engineering services and a governed environment where researchers, startups and companies can develop, test and rapidly deploy new AI applications. The Foundry’s value lies in transforming advanced computing into industrial innovation by providing a practical pathway towards AI adoption.”
The programme also featured Maria Grazia Giuffreda, Associate Director of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) at ETH Zurich, who explored the role of HPC infrastructures in advancing artificial intelligence and scientific research at an international level.
Closing remarks were delivered by Antonio Emilio Calegari, Director of AI4I, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between research institutions, industry and public authorities in building a national ecosystem capable of translating artificial intelligence into innovation, economic growth and competitiveness.
With AI Foundry Peano, AI4I further strengthens its integrated model, bringing together research, engineering, high-performance computing and technology transfer within a single operational platform. More than a supercomputer, Peano is a national capability designed to transform computing power into scientific, technological and industrial value.
