OGR Torino was at full capacity on November 7 for the Lectio Magistralis delivered by Bill Dally, Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President for Research at NVIDIA.

The lecture opened the CSP–IAS – Institute for Advanced Study program, developed by the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence for Industry (AI4I) together with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.

The strong turnout underscored the growing public and industrial interest in artificial intelligence. In his lecture, Dally focused on the hardware architectures that enable recent advances in deep learning and generative models, illustrating how progress in chips and computational design has accelerated AI development over the last decade.

Looking ahead, Dally pointed to the potential applications of large language models in education, healthcare, and entertainment, highlighting their capacity to enhance everyday life and broaden access to knowledge and services.

The event also marked an important step in the development of AI4I, which is advancing the consolidation of its research activities. As noted by Fabio Pammolli, President of AI4I,
“This is the starting point for the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence. Our first research teams are taking shape, with young scientists from around the world stepping into leadership roles. Turin can become a highly attractive city for talent, and it is on talent that growth can be built.”
