AI4I Featured in the Tg1 Special Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic with President Mattarella

To mark the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, Tg1 aired a prime-time special reflecting on the nation’s past, present, and future, featuring an appearance by President Sergio Mattarella.

As part of this in-depth coverage, the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence was invited to weigh in on the role of AI in contemporary society. Representing the Institute was Nicola Franco, Head of the AIS (AI Security) Lab, which drives research into AI security and governance.

During the broadcast, AI was framed as a historic paradigm shift, comparable to past technological revolutions. As Dr. Franco noted: “Artificial intelligence is a true revolution—much like the Industrial Revolution before it, and the rise of the Internet over the last twenty years.”

This shift unlocks immense opportunities while raising profound questions about its economic, social, and political footprint. A central theme of the discussion was the risk of AI control becoming concentrated within a handful of global tech giants.

In his remarks, Franco addressed this challenge directly, offering an optimistic outlook rooted in technological evolution: as computational costs decline, the coming years are poised to trigger a widespread democratization of AI models.

This analysis underscores that AI development is not destined to reinforce monopolies. Instead, it can pave the way for a more accessible, distributed ecosystem.

AI4I’s inclusion in the Tg1 special underscores the Institute’s position as a cornerstone of the national and European dialogue on AI, delivering both scientific expertise and a clear vision for industrial and social impact.
