Full Stack AI Engineer (Deployment & Integration)

The Italian Institute for Artificial Intelligence for Industry (AI4I) is a national public institute established in June 2024 to accelerate the adoption of advanced artificial intelligence technologies across Italy’s industrial ecosystem. Headquartered in Turin and operating across the national territory, AI4I is a strategic pillar of the national AI Factory.

AI4I integrates high-performance computing resources (via CINECA), a national co-design infrastructure (SUK), and a full-stack AI development pipeline (AI Foundry), supporting companies and public institutions in key sectors.

We are looking to appoint a Full Stack AI Engineer (Deployment & Integration) to join the founding team of the AI Deployment Unit-the core team responsible for transitioning AI solutions from lab to large-scale industrial implementation.

About the AI Deployment Unit

The Deployment Unit is responsible for implementing, integrating, and scaling high-TRL AI systems into real-world production environments across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, energy, and smart infrastructure.

The Unit works closely with:

• R&D Labs, developing state-of-the-art AI solutions.
• Engineering Unit and the AI Foundry, managing an AI infrastructure with 140+ NVIDIA H100/B200 GPUs and 6PB of storage.
• Business Development Team, aligning technical delivery with client priorities.

Your Role: Full Stack AI Engineer (Deployment & Integration)

As a Full Stack AI Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in delivering advanced AI solutions into industrial operations, from deployment and integration to performance optimization and long-term scalability.

Key Responsibilities

• Deployment & Integration: Build and optimize deployment pipelines, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
• Client-Facing Engineering: Co-design architectures with industrial partners and support integration with existing production systems.
• Full Stack Implementation: Develop and maintain systems for training, inference, monitoring, and lifecycle management of AI models.
• Technology Transfer: Translate AI research into robust software tools tailored to specific industrial needs.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Engineering, and Business teams to align goals and deliverables.
• Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all deployments meet standards for reliability, documentation, and compliance (e.g. AI Act).
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor solution performance and contribute to the enhancement of infrastructure and processes.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience deploying AI or data-driven software in production environments (e.g. factories, logistics, industrial IT).
• Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Langchain.
• Familiarity with MLOps/DataOps tools like Apache Airflow, Spark, or dbt.
• Hands-on use of Docker and virtual environments (conda, venv).
• Ability to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with AI model optimization, edge deployment, or AI compliance (e.g., AI Act, CE marking).
• Background in telecom, manufacturing, automation, or critical infrastructure.
• Participation in public-private R&D or technology transfer projects.
• Additional Strengths (from candidate profile).
• Project and team leadership experience (incl. financial and delivery accountability).
• Technical certifications: Scrum Master, Product Owner, ITIL v3, Sun Java Certified.
• Experience with:

    • Systems: Automation, Big Data, Cloud, Monitoring;
    • Strong background in mission-critical service delivery (e.g., Telecom Italia, ENEL);
    • Languages: Italian (native), English (proficient).
