Accenture and the Istituto Italiano di Intelligenza Artificiale (AI4I) announced, on March 24, 2026, a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across Italy’s industrial value chains and narrowing the gap between experimentation and real-world deployment in enterprises.
The agreement establishes a shared framework for the development and application of AI solutions, with the objective of strengthening the competitiveness of the Italian productive system and enabling a broader, more structured diffusion of artificial intelligence across companies, starting with small and medium-sized enterprises. According to Accenture estimates, a wider adoption of AI could generate up to €200 billion in additional annual revenues in Europe, highlighting the scale of the economic opportunity associated with this transformation.
The partnership is designed to connect applied research, advanced computing infrastructures and industrial implementation capabilities, contributing to reduce the risk of an “AI divide” between leading companies and those facing greater barriers in accessing technologies and skills.
“The adoption of artificial intelligence is a decisive lever to relaunch productivity and competitiveness across the country. This transformation must extend beyond large corporations. The real step change lies with small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of our economic system. For Accenture, collaborating with AI4I means strengthening the bridge between research and industry, combining scientific expertise, infrastructure and implementation capabilities to support a broader and more accessible adoption of AI across Italian companies,” said Teodoro Lio, CEO of Accenture Italy.
For AI4I, the collaboration reflects a clear strategic direction: enabling the translation of scientific advances into solutions effectively integrated within industrial processes, with the required standards of reliability, scalability and security.
“Collaborations with global operators such as Accenture point to a very clear trajectory for our Institute. Today more than ever, the ability to translate scientific advances into solutions embedded in production processes, with appropriate standards of reliability, scalability and security, is decisive. In this context, access to professional services at the intersection of strategic consulting, technology and operational implementation contributes to strengthening an ecosystem where research, engineering and execution capabilities converge, ultimately reinforcing the competitiveness of companies and of Italy’s industrial system,” said Fabio Pammolli, President of the Istituto Italiano di Intelligenza Artificiale (AI4I).
The collaboration will develop along a set of complementary strategic directions:
– Joint AI projects
Combining Accenture’s presence within large corporations and leading industrial players with the scientific expertise and R&D Labs of AI4I, to enable scalable industrial applications of advanced research.
– AI solutions and accelerators for SMEs
Providing tools such as inventory forecasting, demand prediction and document management, to be evaluated for integration into AI4I’s platforms and service offerings.
– Training and capability building
Developing dedicated AI training programmes to accelerate technology transfer, also leveraging Accenture’s AI-based LearnVantage platform for customised learning pathways.
– Ecosystem engagement and dissemination
Organising workshops, seminars and initiatives to foster dialogue between research, industry and institutions, including through Accenture’s innovation hubs such as the GenAI Studios in Milan and Rome and the Mixic centre in Milan.
The collaboration is part of a broader shared strategy to strengthen Italy’s innovation ecosystem through public-private cooperation, positioning artificial intelligence as a key enabler of competitiveness, industrial innovation and technological sovereignty.
