The Salone del Risparmio in Milan recently concluded and on the aftenoon of its second day, May 6, 2026, the event hosted the Assogestioni conference, “Scaling to Compete: The European Path across AI, Finance, and Industry.” (“Crescere per competere: la via europea tra AI, finanze e industria”)
Focusing on the role of Artificial Intelligence as a key driver for economic competitiveness and industrial transformation, AI4I President Fabio Pammolli delivered a keynote speech.
In his remarks, Pammolli emphasized that AI is no longer a niche topic for specialists but a strategic pillar impacting the entire economic and social framework. Today, AI represents a critical juncture for the future of Europe and Italy, poised to redefine business models, skill sets, and talent acquisition. Ignoring or underestimating this shift risks creating a significant competitive disadvantage in the medium to long term.
“Growth will increasingly depend on how quickly research, finance, and industry can converge within ecosystems capable of generating applied innovation and productivity gains,” Pammolli stated.
The discussion underscored the urgency of equipping Italy and Europe with robust infrastructures and systems to bolster global standing. In this vision, AI4I plays a pivotal role, embodied in its core mission: building an ecosystem for sustainable and competitive industrial innovation.
Then, Yari Nardiello, Head of Strategic Projects at AI4I, detailed the Institute’s mission; and Riccardo Di Maria, Head of HPC/AI and Engineering, provided an in-depth look at the High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.
The partnership between AI4I and the Collège des Ingénieurs underscores a shared commitment to building a more resilient Europe. By equipping the next generation of engineers and leaders with state-of-the-art AI capabilities, AI4I is ensuring that industrial transformation remains not only technologically advanced but also sustainable and high-impact.
